Ray Gaylon Wright was born in Lohn, Texas in 1934. He graduated from the University of Houston and received his PhD from Texas A&M University. He was hired in 1974 as chair of the humanities division at South Texas Junior College. His teaching career of 32 years was spent at STJC and its predecessor, the University of Houston Downtown, in Literature and Philosophy. He always said it was not a job but a way of life. He also took his teaching skills to Guilin, China, where he taught at Gangxi Normal University. In 2000, he was named Professor Emeritus of Philosophy, and was granted a Teacher of the Year award. He passed away February 10, 2015 in Georgetown, Texas.
